Welcome Back, DOOL!

Oh my, DOOL is getting exciting! Can you tell Summer is ending and the Fall is revving up? Let the storylines unfold and resolve! I want to comment on a few exciting storylines and characters on DOOL – I’m sure you’re all breathing a sigh of relief that we’ve wrapped up some storylines, are starting some, or that a new pace has been given to others! I know I am. I don’t find myself fast-forwarding through ANY scenes on DOOL currently.

The Non-EJAMI Wedding: OH MY WORD. WOW. Despite your opinion of EJAMI/SAFE, were the last two days’ worth of scenes not just PHENOMENAL?! If James Scott and Ali Sweeney keep up that kind of acting, we’ll see Emmy nominations and wins for them! I think we all can agree that it’s ABOUT time that the truth about the kidnapping came out. Aren’t we all relieved? Without giving any spoiler information, this storyline is taking a new direction – so buckle up and get ready for the EJAMI/SAFE roller coaster ride. There’s some surprises ahead for sure! DOOL is JUST getting started with this storyline and will take some new twists and turns during November sweeps per a recent interview with Ken Corday.

Needy Nicole: Oh oh! Watch out Nicole! I continue to be intrigued by Nicole’s character. Part of me wants to say “Ha, ha, serves you right!” while the other part of me wants to tell her “It’ll be okay”. She’s such a wounded soul. I’m wondering if Rafe will have to protect her himself from the distraught EJ and the vengeful Stefano. But rest assured – nothing is going to happen to this DOOL Dame.

The “Who’s the Daddy” turned “Who Switched It”: I didn’t see that coming. I was dead set on Stephanie being the one who switched the paternity results, as spoilers indicated. What an unexpected twist – it could be…let’s see…Philip/Daniel/Chloe/Carly/Nathan/Melanie/Stephanie – did I miss one? Thank goodness I didn’t fast-forward through those scenes last week! I almost missed it. I follow Molly Burnett on Twitter and she stated that November Sweeps will blow our minds regarding this storyline. Get ready for Kayla to come back to help Silly Stephanie deal with her mess. So, once again, the coming weeks will be interesting. Again, buckle up!

Vivacious and Vicious Victor and Vivian: We should just call Victor “Mr. Quips”. He’s full of them and his scene with Nicole had me rolling in laughter. We really needed that balance to the intensity of the other storylines that are rapidly resolving and taking new direction. Regarding Vivian – is anyone else scratching their head as to WHY the repeat storyline with burying Maggie? This storyline has me wondering and questioning. Perhaps someone out there can shed some light for me. Thanks for that!

Farewell, Dr. Baker: Anyone else upset that Dr. Baker won’t be on the show anymore? (At least not for a while). I am – his character also provided a balance to the show. I will miss his scenes.

BOPE Fans Rejoice: It looks like Bo and Hope are on a path back to each other now that they are permanently, physically separated. Get ready for the two of them to be the bulwark of the show, just as John and Marlena were in the days of old. I also cannot wait for Jennifer’s return to Salem, too! She will be instrumental in this storyline as well! (Per a recent Ken Corday interview)

All in all, it should be an exciting Fall and I truly hope that these changes to pace, along with new twists and the introducing of new characters, provide the spice the show needs to stay afloat for the 2011-2012 season!

Iv looooooooooved the last week of days, I’m a uk viewer we were just beginning the legendary/ infamous melaswen storyline last week when the channel dropped it! I was devastated as it was more exciting than the new ones that I followed online. Now with all these twists and turns it will ease the pain of missing the melaswen stuff .

I really miss John and Marlena. I love love love Victor and Vivienne brilliant writing and one liners, Vivienne is truly demented I guess her buried alive thing is her modus operandi crazy woman lol.

Love reading the blog btw I rarely comment but do read, especially as there is mo one to talk about days with in the uk my friends thing I’m demented for following the us soaps as I never watch the uk ones strangely

Keep up the good work x x

  • KatieR

The storylines do feel to be picking up, and I find most of them interesting. But I am not interested in seeing Sami end up with either of these two men. And after what she will do to EJ I really don’t want to see them together again (which I know they will be, it’s inevitable as long as both EJ and Sami are in Salem). I really and truly need a Sami-vacation. I love AS but Sami’s bugging me. Doesn’t need to be long, maybe 1 month? Let her take the kids down to Disney World or maybe visit John and Marlena in Switzerland.
    -
I really can’t wait to see (hopefully) EJ get revenge on the town of Salem.
    -
As for Maggie being buried alive, they’re hoping to bring back some of the excitement that abounded when JER was writing in the 90s. Not to mention there are viewers like myself who, when it was announced Vivian was returning, expected to see someone buried alive. And quite honestly Maggie annoys me at times. Did I mention I couldn’t stop laughing during the Salem Stalker incident when she was bashed over the head with a wine bottle? Did I also mention that I wanted Mickey to pick Bonnie?

  • KatieR

I should mention I missed the heyday of Maggie. Perhaps that’s why I don’t see the interest in her character. For me she’s always just been the owner of the only nice restaurant in town. And the town AA buddy.
    —-
One last thing, everytime DOOL brings Doug and Julie outta the closet and prop them onstage to support a current storyline, or for a major holiday, I find myself thinking I want to see them more. I really like Doug and Julie. Always have.

  • Nathan

The one storyline I question is that of Vivian’s. Really writers? Again? See the last time Vivian buried someone alive, they discovered she had some kind of tumor or illness that was affecting her behavior. Now what? Although I did read a spoiler of what will happen, it still doesn’t fascinate me. Louise Sorel is an amazing actress and I don’t think she’s being given the proper material. DAYS, don’t let go of Louise/Vivian. Find a better storyline, ASAP!

  • HarleDoes

I’m also disappointed in Vivian’s storyline. They could do so much better with her. I hope Maggie actually leaves Salem for a while, so she and Victor actually have to face their situation, and Victor has to make a choice one way or the other about whether to continue their arrangement. I think him just ignoring Vivian and hoping she goes away is a complete cop-out. Not to mention that I would think Victor would be smarter than to treat Vivian that way, considering what she’s capable of.
    -
But yay for the other storylines! I’m thrilled about the paternity switch whodunit (though my money is still on Philip). I’m glad the Sydnapping thing is finally done with. Regardless of where they decide to take this, that story really dragged out. I do have to agree that JS and AS really pulled out all the stops for those scenes. Total emmy material. GG was just pissing me off though, after everything came out. He just stood around all smug when the woman he supposedly loves was completely heartbroken and devastated! I understand that he was glad the truth came out, but that was just tacky.

  • Karen M.

    KatieR,
I agree w/ your thoughts on Maggie…I find her charachter to be an annoying busy body/know it all. I think the audience likes her at the moment because she was good to Melanie and Mia. But now, ugh, I don’t like her scenes at all.

  • Alicia E

Nathan, it was some kind of Chinese herbs that Vivian was taking last time. I suppose it is a bit more evil this time around, considering that, but it’s one of those campy kind of storylines where we’re not meant to take it too seriously. I find it hilarious myself, but it’s just one of those things where either you like it or you don’t.
    ***
Daniel and KatieR, glad I’m not the only one getting a kick out of Vivian’s demented behavior. How’d you like when she told Gus not to over-tip the guy delivering the sarcophagus because she wasn’t intending to be a repeat customer?

  • Ron

There were two storylines that were on major life support when it came to my interest level. Chad’s storyline & the paternity storyline. Once we found out that Stefano was the father that storyline flatlined for me and I’ve already buried it in a “sarcophagus”. But luckily the writers didn’t go the extremely obvious route lthe other storyline and they decided to put a twist in the paternity storyline and transition it into a “Who done it?” storyline because I’ve got a new interest in it now.

Once again, Days is wasting talent on lame writing. Vivian could be so much more that Ms. doom&Despair, adn frankly, given her history, the moment she started talking about mausoleum’s, warning bells should have been sounding through Salem.

Dough & Julie definitely need to be brought back to help fill the empty void left in the show by the passing of both Tom & Alice, AND writers need to remember/learn that Hope is Julie’s sister, not her daughter.

Baby-daddy, yawn. Overdone, over-drawn and not particularly interesting, since it will all come out when baby gets sick and needs a transplant/transfusion/parental dna infusion. My money’s on Victor, though. Long gone, however, are the days when this story could have drawn out for years (Mike Horton).

Jennifer returning, cool news; here’s hoping daddy Bill comes back as well. I like the guy they got for the funeral, just wish they could have also mentioned his older brother Tommy Jr and his daughter, Sandy Horton. There are a lot of off-canvas Horton’s out there, they could make use of them more often. Bring back Marie, as well.

  • Nathan

Thanks Alicia E! I knew it was something making her act crazy, but still, now? That was a one hit wonder storyline that does not need to be redone.

  • KatieR

LMAO!, omg Ron you made me lol when you said, ‘…and I buried it in a sarcophagus’. I can only imagine what the ppl in the cubicles around me were thinking, lol.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/sk8ergrrl85 Jessi G.

I think the Bo and Hope balloon needs to finally pop and die. There is a reason Jarlena was let go. If they keep up with this crap with BOPE, I have a feeling BOPE will be gone too (fired). Bo deserves to be with Carly, end of story.

  • Alicia E

Jessi G, I read and enjoyed your other post about this. I’m not counting Carbo down for the count. They are a great couple with a strong history of their own and a dedicated fan base. Count me in as a former Bope fan who’s gone to the Carbo side of the force. Go Carbo!

  • Michael Jenkins

It is getting better, but it still needs improvement.

  • Hannah

Michael Jenkins – you’re right, but I’m glad for the relief.

  • jimmy crisp

When Sami and Rafe looked into each other’s eyes as if they were meant to be, I turned to another station. Such a crock! Rafe and Sami are both just as boring and they can get married live happily ever after and kill the show. How fitting because they are both so bad at acting that it’s going to take something or someone to rescue it. The only actors who legitimize the show are Nathan, E.J., Vivian, and maybe Nichole.

  • Jennifer M

I too am finding the repete of Vivian buring someone alive boring. I guess I just want to know what happened to Ivan and I think there’s something more to Gus than meets the eye but I’ve already gone into what I want that story to be.
KatieR your not the only one that wanted Micky to pick Bonnie. I loved her when she sold Maggies stuff to get Evils pictures.

  • Libby

I agree with Michae Jenkins. The pace is speeding up and that should help.

  • Ron

KatieR, glad to see I caused people to stare awkwardly at your cubicle lol
    -
I guess I’m in the minority of being someone that’s really liking Maggie right now. She was one of those characters I didn’t really care much about either way until she took Melanie under her wing. And then when Victor came into the picture I really got into the character. I love their scenes together. If anything Julie’s the one I wish would move out of town.
    -
Even though she hasn’t had that many scenes, ever since Christmas Julie’s been a billion times more annoying to me than Maggie has been. I was hoping at Hope’s trial the judge would sentence Julie to being sent to Day’s Europe or Melaswen, anywhere other than Salem just for being irritating. She became more of a nag that Hope and has annoyed the living hell out of me anytime she’s had a scene since Hope left Bo.

  • Jennifer M

Ron I don’t like Julie either. Her filp flopping from blaming Bo to calling him Hope’s hero pissed me off. Make up your mind woman do you hate Bo or not. Its no wounder Hope is nuts, she was raised by her half sister who married her father. Julie has always been a brat who can’t make up her mind. I’m trying to think if I ever liked her. I really don’t remember a time I liked Julie. She really was befor my time and my earliest meory of her was with her son David and Renee. I loved it when Renee told Julie off right befor she died. She was the mother in law from hell.

  • Ron

JenniferM, I know exactly the scene you’re talking about, I saw a couple months ago when I was brushing up on my Days history on youtube, and I saw that clip and laughed at her ripping everyone in the room. And after watching Julie over the past few months, watching that scene with her talking about Julie makes me like the scene even more I don’t say this about many characters but I wouldn’t mind seeing her back, it’d be interesting seeing how she’d interact with her sister and father. Though it would be kind of weird because I’m not sure but I think there is still somewhat of a question mark about Tony’s true paternity.

Awesome commentary Hannah! I love reading your posts!

Loved the JS/AS scenes. I think AS is bringing a maturity to Sami, that I like.

Nicole is my favourite character in Salem, and I always wish she would get the benefit of the doubt. I always feel like I root for her.

    Stephanie is an awesome character.

  • Hannah

Thanks, Sarah – I do appreciate your kind words.

  • anita

Why are the writers not using Dr Baker!!! What a great character they could explore. I would love to see him work with Vivan. He could have been either Stefano or Victor’s personal doctor.
Loved it when Nicole called him Dick. Wanted more scenes between him and EJ.
Bring back Dr. Baker!! Like the Ari and EJ scenes and I am a die hard Ejami fan.
Dr. Baker and his love for Hope or Dark Hope could be a storyline. Bo would be jealous.

  • denise

When Sami apologized to Rafe (huh? he is a jerk) I thought I was going to barf. Why are the two of them back together (and BORING) already?
I’m also going to miss Dr. Baker!
I hate any scene with Vivian or Carly, and now I’m going to hate Rafe. I actually like Maggie and would like to see Victor continue to pursue her.
I don’t remember David with Renee, I thought he was with Trish and Renee was with Tony.. before she learned he was her brother.
I can’t wait to see what EJ will do next.
Don’t agree that Safe can’t act. I think AS is fantastic! I guess that means I halfway agree, lol.

  • Jennifer M

Ron I wish they bring Renee back but I don’t see that happening. She been dead a really long time tho they did have Ej talk about her death with his father and how he was the reason she died.
Tony isn’t a DiMera by blood I know they keep changing thier mind on that one but as soon has he had sex with Renee he stoped being a DiMera in my eyes because incest is a big no no. Even if days did have Marie Horton fall in love with her brother Tom jr. I over looked that story because she became a nun because of it.
    ————

Denise Renee was married to David but she really always only ever loved Tony. She married David because at the time she thought Tony was her brother.

  • Alicia E

Thanks, Ron, for posting that link. Watching Renee go off on everyone like that was so satisfying. I think there’s not a character in Salem that couldn’t use a good take down every once in a while.
    ***
Jennifer M, your vivid early memories sure come in handy. :-)

  • Jennifer M

Alicia E Sometimes I wish I couldn’t remember some stories because of hack rewrites they do. My head still hurts trying to rap my mind about Tony being on an island for 20 some odd years. Or Belle being a brady/dimera marring Shawn who’s lucky his grandma had a affair with Victor so there wouldn’t be in breeding. For the most part I over look bad rewrites. I think you have to with soaps. I sometimes wish they would hire a historian so when the writers mess up they’ll catch it befor it airs or the story go on. Like in the movie Soap Dish and Whoppi comes in and says she can’t write for a person with no head. We need writers who know Days history.
