How the Rumor Started

Posted by: admin In: Uncategorized

I read on the blog about the possible cancellation of Days. I did a bit of research and I think I may have found where the rumor started. On Wikipedia, the Day’s entry says this:
“As with other soap operas, Days ratings have declined since the 1990s. In January 2007 it was suggested by NBC that the show “is unlikely to continue [on NBC] past 2009.”[31] In November 2008, in an eleventh-hour decision, it was announced the show had been renewed and now will be on the air through September 2010. The 18-month renewal was down from its previous renewal, which was for five years. The show has made somewhat of a comeback in 2009, with ratings increasing as the year progressed.”
So, I’m guessing that people have read this and are concerned that it won’t be renewed in September. With the rating improving in 2009, there may be a chance that it will continue.
I’m crossing my fingers. I’ve been watching Days since I was old enough to remember. My Mom and I used to watch it together before I started school, she recorded it for me until I was old enough to do it myself and then I arranged my schedule in college so that I wouldn’t miss it. We even had a Days watching group on my hall in the dorm building. Needless to day, I’m a bit of a fan.
I think I’ll send out a few more e-mails and see if I can pin down a definite answer about this. I’ll let you know.

I read on the blog about the possible cancellation of Days. I did a bit of research and I think I may have found where the rumor started. On Wikipedia, the  entry regarding Days says this, discusses the decline in ratings since the 1990s for all soaps.   NBC did elude to Days being unlikely to continue past 2009. A last minute decision allowed the show another  18-months. This takes us to September of 2010.  The  renewal was considerably shorter than it’s usual 5 years.

So, I’m guessing that people have read this and are concerned that it won’t be renewed in September. With the ratings improving in 2009, rising to a tie for second place,  it seems highly likely for Days to again be renewed. Hopefully for 5 years this time. I don’t want to wait on eggshells again!

I hope it stays on for at least a couple of more years. I started watching it with my mom when I was little. She had started watching it when she was pregnant with me. There were a few years when I didn’t watch it, but now I never miss it. It’s still my favorite of all the soaps that are on tv.

Like many others, I have been watching Days for 36 years and I sure hope it does not get cancelled! It’s a great show and there would be such a void on afternoon telelvision. It would be a shame to replace Days with another talk show, reality show or game show. It just could not compare!

We need to keep Days going!!! Three generations in my family watch and I know I speak for them too.

A friend of mine said she’d read about the cancellation in Parade Magazine March 14th edition.

When I first started watching Days with my grandmother..Julie was a teenager and pregnant with David. I really would hate it if Days was cancelled because I am now watching it with my granddaughter. Its a great show and I feel like it is a family tradition.

I can’t even imagine my day with out that hour I take to watch Days. They just can’t cancel it. They can’t say there isn’t anymore to write about because they have all kinds of ideas that they could go back on. I have been watching it for my entire life.

I was hoping that when I retire from the rat race in 5years that Dool would be the one thing that would keep me from going round the bend besides charity work. I don’t like Game shows or talk shows and confine my TV viewing to things like 24, fringe. the mentalist but price is right just isn’t my cup of tea as the porice isn;t right for me to waste an hour of my day on that mundane drizzle. I need my EJ fix every day to keep the smile on my face and the spring in my step so a day with him is like a day without sunshine. I personally will storm the studio if the take away DOOl its my only vice…and if you believe that one I’ve got a timeshare to sell you dirt cheap

The Parade blurb is not a confirmation that the show is canceled, just a reminder that the decision for the network is being made probably at this time.

Ken Corday did a SOD interview in July of 09 and said, “the most important six months in this history of the show thus far will be September through March of 2010.” He says the ratings for those six months will determine “whether we’re picked up for another year into March of 2011″.

Days ratings have been going up in 2009 and have made gains compaired to year before stats and Days is the only soap to gain viewers from last year.

NBC been promoting Days. Adds during Ali’s Biggest Loser, Day of Days in Nov. etc.

Plus NBC completely botched their primetime lineup with Leno, Days is a bright spot for them in daytime.

Plus, I have not seen anything on Daytime Confidential, TV guide Canada, We Love Soaps hinting of cancellation, so no news may be good news.

Maybe fans could start tweeting/e-mailing the soap sites to see if there are any rumors.

The Days cast would be the last to know.

I have been watching Days since day one. My daughters have grown up watching Days and my teen granddaughter is watching too. Lets start a campaign for Days, just like the one Facebook had on Betty White to host SNL!!!! Does everyone feel the same way about the campaign????

I hope Days is not cancelled also. I have been watching since 1968,with my Aunt.
I just wish they would bring back some of the old orginal cast, like Patch,Gayla, Jennifer and Jack, Marlena and John. That was when the show was really interesting. It still is but just miss some of the old cast. How do they get their rating any way who does that?

>>> As far as Wikipedia, I wish people would stop using that as a “reliable” source. Wikipedia is just a collection of facts/opinions written by and edited by absolutely anybody. I don’t mind reading Wiki for entertainment, but I would never totally trust it.

I have been watching Days since I was a little girl, and when Sammi was a teenager getting herself into trouble. I really hope that Days will stay on the air. To my family it’s tradition for all the girls to watch, so I hope it never gets canceled.

Thank you for your post. I hope you are right about the rumor and its origin. Personally, I think you are right. Plus there are folks who are not avid fans who know Days of our Lives and As The World Turns are both long running shows — and they may be picking up news of ATWT and relating it to Days.

I was an infant when Days launched. So, I have to rely on my Mother and Grandmother’s recollections from Day 1. But I have memoroes from 1968-69 onward. Definitely have followed it since the 1970s. The show is a part of my family history. I have lost several beloved family members in the last years – and it is a real comfort to continue to watch Days – where I have so many happy memories watching the show together and having great talks about what had and will happen next. I am praying for 5 year renewal for our beloved Days! Let’s hope an announcement comes soon. So these rumors will dry up.
