Can the Influence of Stuart Damon Lead James Scott to be the Next James Bond?

When news first broke about a possible brief recurring gig for seasoned actor, Stuart Damon, on Days of Our Lives, I was excited. Damon is best known for his portrayal of Alan Quartermaine on General Hospital. After 30+ years on GH, he was let go in what seems like a similar manner to the dismissal of Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn. Personally, I liked the character of Alan on ’GH’. And I was curious as to how producers and writers at ‘Days’ might utilize him. After a few searches on Google, I found several surprising and interesting You Tube clips of his work from the 1960’s through today. He has portrayed varied characters that were quite different from the pompous, sweet and very flawed doctor, father and husband in the very dysfunctional Quartermaine household.
It seems that Damon’s first real break in show business came from playing the dashing Prince Charming in a television movie of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella co-starring Leslie Ann Warren. He gained notoriety in the US television market back in that glorious and pivotal year of 1965 – the same year our precious ‘Days’ was originally launched on NBC. Soon, Damon moved with his British – born wife to England for approximately ten years. He was engaged in syndicated episodes of The Saint with Roger Moore (a successful spy vehicle for Moore before he became James Bond 007), The New Avengers among other episodic programs. After watching a few of the clips of his work on the British television programs, I really liked his humor and banter with Roger Moore before he became the JB 007. Please see the attached brief snippet of Damon in an episode of The Saint.
It occurred to me that ‘Days’ producers might use Damon’s character to banter with ‘Days’ own resident Brit. If written well, Damon could be a clever ally or nemesis for EJ and others in Salem. [Note: love EJ or hate him – he is an integral part of Days now. It is understood by all that he is certainly one, but not the only, reason for an upswing of ratings. We all know Days of Our Lives is absolutely not the EJ, EJAMi or EJOLE show. No one character or actor is ever solely deemed the most important “one” to the exclusion of others. ]
I hope the introduction of Damon as the new ‘Days’ character of Governor Ford is successful. Right now, it is sounding like he is only committed for a very short run, but I am anxious to see how the producers and writers of ‘Days’ pull him into a storyline. I hope we get to see more than five days of a snappy and witty repartee between Stuart Damon, James Scott and other citizens of Salem. Granted, he is a little older now and not quite as dashing and slim as he was in the 1960’s. However, it seems to me that he is still a superb character actor with surprising acumen in bantering with the Brits, even if it is in Salem USA.
