A Tragic Loss

Posted by: admin In: Uncategorized

by Amy Plouf

I am so deeply saddened to tell you of the passing of our beloved Frances Reid, a soap opera icon. Reid has played the role of Alice Horton since the show aired in 1965. I just received news from fellow DOOL Blogger,http://daysfanatic.wordpress.com/, that Frances passed yesterday afternoon, February 3rd, 2010. She was 96.

We feel for her family and we will remember her always in our hearts.

I’ve watched this show for more than 40 years and really loved our sweet Alice. She was the backbone of the show after her beloved Tom died and she filled the role beautifully. God bless you, Frances. Thank you for all the years of entertainment and the memories.

Yes, sad news, but we had her for so long. She was making appearances on Days well into her 90’s which is amazing.

In a 2003 Legends of Television interview she was asked how would she like to be remembered. She said modestly she did not think she would be remembered. I think she underestimated Days fans. We would remember.

You were memorable, Frances Reid. Thank you.

So very sad to hear of the loss of Frances (Alice) to most of us. My grandmother watched Days ever since it came on so I guess you could say I have watched also. I was wondering why she was not on at the special Christmas Tree Ornament hanging, and why she was not at Micky’s memorial service. Frances you will be missed dearly and I hope that you Rest In Peace. Please know that you were loved by all!

She will live on in all our memories and DOOL was better for having her serve as the Horton matriarch! She’s with her Tom now!

It will never be the same. She was the core and presence of the entire soap for so long. It has been very different without her presence and matronly advice to all. She always there to lend support and guidance to all Salem’ites. She will be sadly missed. I knew she couldn’t live forever, but it’s really sad that she’s gone.

Rest In Peace, Frances Reid. You will surely be missed, :(

And as far as DAYS goes in the handling, they most definitely need to dedicate AT LEAST a week to Alice’s death. AT LEAST! And they need to bring back the older vets. Jack and Jen & their kids, Marlena and John, Belle and Shawn D, etc.

Shawn and Belle are two that DEFINITELY need to come back. I would simply not believe in a million years they wouldn’t make it back. Perhaps they could get original Belle and Shawn for a couple eppi’s. I know they’re both on other soaps at the moment, but I would think they would allow the two of them to help pay tribute to one of the most remarkable women in Daytime HISTORY.
